Am I the only one who loves the F01/F02 7-Series? It seems that all of the Big Bimmer love goes to the E38, but I can’t say that I like the E38 that much (besides the V12). I can understand the E65 hate, but I will hold the F01/F02 torch until I die. And yes I know this is my third BMW post in a row, BMW is my favorite brand after all.

I like it, not as much as the E38, but I do. I even like the Bangle.

No, you’re not the only one. I like them, especially with the M Sport package.

You’re not the only one.
I had a 740i model for a few hours around Auburn - wished they changed it to a few days.

These are undeserving of your love. The E38 is loved because it’s actually a pretty good car. These do not age gracefully.

In fairness, these cars make yours look like a Camry (and I mean that as a complement). They really don’t age well at all, often suffering hugely expensive problems well before 100k miles. I can’t recommend these to anyone in good faith.

Yup, that’s basically it. These things are unreliable. E38 ftw.

These don’t hold a handle to E38. Main issue being reliability. The engines in these are iffy to say the least. Cooling problems much like E65. Transmissions are same as E65 which are far from reliable. I am sure they are great cars as long as you have extended warranty.

I'm going to be so sad if that angry guy down there is right about them breaking down. Because they're depreciating like heck and I love big executive cars.

The transmissions were the same for 2009-2012, then they switched over to the 8-speed. Can’t disagree with you on reliability though, the only semi-reliable engine is the N55. #n63timingchainsbatteriesoilandfuelpump

He’s partially right, but the N55 powered 740i isn’t horrible on the reliability front, still below average, but not horrible. You need to avoid any other one though, because the 750i has LOTS of problems.

The 7 is a flagship and this is probably the worst one of them all do the research u should kno ur a 600 guy.. these thing have a crappy reliability and quality issues since hey been coming out I have a few friends with these and they traded for a lexus or Benz....I’m not saying the m5 is reliable but that’s a car they made less than 25 k of and well that make hundred and thousands of 7s so I expect that product to have some level decent of reliability and quality instead it’s hard plastics shitty leather and the terror that is I drive.. And speaking in mordern terms the e39 and e 38 have been very cheap to work on because the are now viewed as less complex than modern turbo unit

I’m evenly split on the E38/F01 question, liking them both. But for some reason I have this odd and probably unpopular thought that a BMW larger than a 5-series isn’t really necessary. I’ve felt this way since the E23, feeling that no matter how good the 7-series is it plays second fiddle to the S-Class.
I don’t feel the same way about Mercedes, and think that the S-Class is the pinnacle of luxury sedans (excluding RR, Bentley and similar vehicles priced in the stratosphere), and that the AMG versions of same are just pointless overkill; personally, I liked the 6-cylinder hybrid S400 and would have preferred one of those over a V8-powered version had I been in the market for such a large car.
To me BMW is a sporting brand and should be more about the performance, but I’m old and don’t buy into this crap that every manufacturer needs to be in every conceivable market segment, even if they have to make up new ones to fill.
When it comes to mid-rangers, my E34 is reasonably sized and nicely sporty (although a little tight in the back (but who cares - I’m up front)), whereas my W210 was quite spacious by comparison but cheap and uninspiring/uninvolving when it came to driving dynamics.
As a once-loyal BMW owner, if I was stepping up to a vehicle larger than a 5-series I would buy an S-Class and not a 7-series, but then again, I have no desire to own a sedan larger than a 5er.

I 100% agree, BMW doesn’t need the 7-Series. The S-Class is really the only choice in that segment, and the 7 really doesn’t fit their brand portfolio.

You’re not the only one, as I too like the F01/02 too. It just has a great presence on the road.
